Training

Transforming toxic conflict requires skilled facilitation and leadership. RTT equips leaders with the training and tools to create breakthroughs in recognition and relationship.

Tiers of Training

Building the muscles for pluralism-in-action

RTT’s widely recognized framework and suite of tools enable participants to shift suspicion, alienation, and animosity into connection, collaboration, and trust.

RTT offers multiple levels of training, summarized here from least to most intensive:

Speaking Across Conflict Workshops

(3-5 hours)

RTT’s celebrated workshop provides two foundational skills for productive communication on charged political issues and a forum for dialogue across disagreement. Participants exchange views and experiences, surface differences and commonalities, and practice skills while directly discussing differences. Participants don’t just “talk about talking;” they internalize bridge-building skills and mindsets by investigating strong differences in the room. The methodology is practice-based and experiential, walking leaders through road-tested exercises they can replicate in their own institutions to build capacity for navigating differences.

Professional Development Training

(4-6 sessions)

This multi-session training provides participants with three+ actionable skills to advance healthy engagement across political divides through dialogue and deliberation, education, storytelling, joint problem-solving, and decision-making. Participants receive multiple rounds of live coaching and feedback as they practice techniques for facilitating and convening difficult conversations, defusing tensions, and building recognition across divisions. The training frequently includes recommendations for integrating techniques into specific sectors, from film and TV to higher education to faith communities

Facilitation Intensives

(3+ months)

This advanced training teaches leaders and practitioners RTT’s comprehensive framework for sustaining connection and mutual receptivity while addressing strong differences directly, including tools for addressing the most challenging dynamics facilitators face (e.g., escalation; hurt and offended participants). Intensives include five+ full group training sessions in skills and troubleshooting interventions, customized practice sessions in pairs with RTT coaches, and 1:1 consultation on how to integrate tools and skills into individual participants’ leadership, work, and institutions.

“Train-the-Trainer” Cohorts

(7+ months)

In RTT’s most intensive training program, participants are trained in RTT’s full framework of skills and interventions while also learning to teach and coach their own constituents and community members in core skills for communicating across divides. Participants learn to deliver RTT’s signature workshop and disseminate RTT’s tools with varied audiences, producing sustained downstream impacts.

This training took facilitation to a whole different level—the most effective, powerful and transformative approach to holding space for constructive and difficult conversations and challenging dynamics. Immediately relevant and applicable on all levels with my work and life mission to bring diverse groups of faith leaders together to end divisions, suspicion, judgments, and hatred based on religious differences. I learned more in this training than any other!”

I wish every leader could participate in this training. The skills we are learning are essential to leading in a polarized and activated world, no matter what the context is. I appreciated the balance between learning and practicing… the time was so well spent, and I left with a deeper understanding of the skills and insights on how to apply them. Our ability to see, hear, and understand people as they wish to be seen, heard, and understood—and our capacity to help people do the same for others—is a foundational skillset our sector and its leadership so desperately need, now more than ever.”

I am still surprised at how much this training moved me. It was refreshing to dive into skill-building in such a meaningful way on something so human, fundamental, and needed. In just two days, I started to learn a new way of being with others, of receiving and understanding others, and of navigating dynamics and interactions. I am so grateful for this opportunity and excited for what is to come! Each [facilitator] brought a unique and different way of engaging the group and it felt authentic and caring. This all feels so useful, timely, and new. I feel like I am using a new part of my brain to listen and receive others.

I would definitely have classified myself as a conflict-avoider, one who would shut down when things got at all charged. This would leave me (and others) frustrated and often angry. RTT's method, content, and trainers have demonstrated a much better way—addressing differences head on and seeking to understand other people. I want to live in and help provide others with a 'sustainable reality' and this training has given me hope and excitement for that! I am inspired to work toward breaking down walls and creating spaces where EVERYONE can feel heard and seen.

This will not just be another tool in my backpack—it has impacted the way I see the potential of any gathering. RTT’s transformational model will revolutionize everything I am trying to do. RTT’s framework elevated my thinking and provided a guide to transformative communication that is going to make my work sustainable. I left every session feeling the way I want the people in rooms I facilitate to feel: energized, heard, valued, affirmed in my human experience, and open to the perspectives and the reality of others. The facilitators broadened my understanding of my role as a facilitator and the real-time coaching was invaluable. I have never before had this kind of support in my work.”

RTT has been an absolute game-changer! I have never experienced a training like Resetting the Table’s before. The methodology is clear, the coaches are supportive, and the skills are immensely useful. Participating in Resetting the Table helped me broaden my worldview, give grace to those whose perspective is different than mine, and feel more comfortable sitting with multiple truths. I'm so energized by this work and excited to bring it to my students. This program will change you for the better.”
